This Friday I’m in love
With… Booths Northern Christmas.
On Thursday evening I was invited to meet the suppliers from their Northern Christmas range, I got to taste test their food ranges, discuss buying methods and supply chains(way more interesting than you think) and chat at length about how you match up the perfect wines and beers with your festive meals. The event was wonderful and informative, they weren’t there to push their products but rather showcase the local producers. I went thinking I’d test some products and talk about them here but the enthusiasm from all the people I met means I’m thinking a little harder about showcasing them to you. In the the meantime I wanted to show you the most beautiful item in the goodie bag I received – their Christmas order book (if you click the link you can see the digital version) this is a cloth bound collection of food, drinks and gifts to order for the festive season but also interviews with their suppliers, the Booths family and some lovely recipes which I hope to try out.
Booths XmasWith…Booths All Butter Mince Pies. Continuing the slightly early Christmas theme I made the mistake of dipping into the Booths Bag and breaking my first festive rule of no Mince Pies until November. You just risk running out of Christmas spirit if you start too soon. However as I’ve tried them I may as well tell you about them. The pastry is wonderfully crisp and buttery, the filling is spiced and packed full of orange tang and noticeable pieces of apple and raisin that in some other brands are just mushed. I’m certainly happy to have these set out for Santa over Christmas and maybe have a few more myself.
Booths Northern Christmas Mince pies. With… I Love Cafe. A wonderful vintage cafe in my hometown decorated as you’d just fell down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderful. It serves a huge selection of teas and coffee, plus organic and homemade meals and cakes. Sitting in there today drinking my milky Earl Grey I was taken aback by the china patterns popping out from the old Formica table top. It was a little hit back to Summer colours on a dreary day.
Vintage tea from I Love Cafe in Carlisle. With… Mix and match Lush products, I not quite ready to embrace Lush’s Christmas range which has landed this week instead I’m playing around with the stockpile I already have and playing alchemist with part pieces for added fun. This shimmering black hole of knockout scents and experimental froth was half Intergalactic and a chunk of Sunnyside we had left over. I could have stared at the patterns it made for hours, I should have filmed it as a screensaver.
LushiousWith… Mils & Boo candles. Isn’t it great when you discover lovely products and that they’re made in your home town! Well that’s what happened here, I bought these wonderfully scented candles from an independent shop in Carlisle, looked them up at home and noticed they’re locally made. Some friends will be getting these in their Christmas stockings, not only are the scents divine but the tins reusable as well. I picked English Pear and Freesia and Black Pomegranate, the latter is especially perfect for cold October evenings. Mills&Boo As always I’d love to know what’s rocking your boat at the moment, happy weekend.x.
